Good Space Recovery

STOP

So you just come off a really tough call, or had a customer shout at you, or had a fight with a loved one that triggered your fight/flight response. What now? You must give yourself time to recover.

It might not even need to be much time, but you need to take a beat. Do you know that if people are rude to us, for a short time after we actually become dumber? Taking a short break to recover charges up your overall resilience faster and not doing it keeps your charge low & slow.

Don't feel like you are showing weakness by just boxing on. It doesn't magically go away if you ignore it, it lurks for you later and feels much worse - oooh scary eh! Depending on what happened you may just need a super quick recharge or something a bit longer.

FAST CHARGE

A FAST CHARGE is good for when your CHARGE has taken a small hit or you are in a situation where you can't take the time for a slower recovery. Even if it is a small hit to your charge, you need to take some time otherwise you are just going to drain what you have left faster.

Brushing it off or toughing it out might be one of those habits you need to break if you want to really be in a GOOD SPACE.

To FAST CHARGE, you need to do three things, about 90 seconds worth in total.

30 Seconds Breathe -  30 Seconds Move -  30 Seconds

CHARGE UP

Resilience, Stress & Burnout

Stress is not a dirty word. Some stress actually helps, it motivates us to work differently, identify threats, pushes us out of a comfort zone - moves us to a new GOOD SPACE.

Prolonged stress though isn't great and causes harm. When we don't have the resources, support or tools to manage our stress, it leads to burnout. And burnout sucks. Not only does it hurt our physical body, it can turn our mind against us - telling us things like "I'm useless", "I can't do this", "I don't care anyway".

These thoughts prevent us from taking action that would help - getting support, resting, it makes things even worse. Resilience helps us manage our stress. Much like loss & pain, we can't avoid stress.

Your Charge

Having a good charge on our resilience means we can recover, bounce back faster when we experience stress. The GOOD SPACE journal guides you through the what, why & how we can CHARGE up our resilience.

What really is Resilience?

We like to think of resilience as our own personal battery pack that's made up of a combination of habits, levels of awareness and actions. We each find some of these things easier to do than others, and depending on our life experiences, stage of life and current situation we will need to focus on charging up different parts at different times.

Don't try and charge them all up at once - it's too hard, and you don't need to. The trick is to work out what you need right now and spend time on that. Once you have a good enough charge in one or two areas, then move on to the next one.

You don’t need to be at 100%

Your overall charge will fluctuate throughout the day, the week, the month - that's super cool too - your phone doesn't need to be on 100% all of the time to work, and nor do you.

Recognising where your charge is at, what you need to do about it, and then actual doing it, is guaranteed to build up your resilience long term. Your needs are unique to you – the GOOD SPACE guide lets you work through what will make a difference to you – take what you need and skip what you don’t.
